'''''Abstract'''''
''Patriarchal culture still dominates based on sociological events in several Islamic boarding schools. Even though Islamic boarding schools provide several possibilities for women to get equal opportunities in Islamic boarding school education, this does not affect the understanding of social structure as an essential part of interaction in the world of Islamic boarding schools. As a result, Islamic boarding schools cannot contain existing interpretations of religion, customs, and values, thereby failing to meet women's expectations. This research aims to see the existence of female ulama in the context of patriarchal culture in Islamic boarding schools in Jember City. This research formulates two questions: First, how do you respond and negotiate the presence of female ulama in the patriarchal culture in Islamic boarding schools in the city of Jember? Second, what is the position and relationship of female ulama in the patriarchal culture of Islamic boarding schools in the city of Jember? This research uses a field study methodology and a literature study approach based on qualitative descriptive data. Based on the findings of this research, the presence of female ulama in a patriarchal culture in Islamic boarding schools has complex implications for the growth and development of Islamic boarding schools themselves. This study found that female ulama is essential in Islamic boarding schools' religious education and character development. Female clerics also set an example by playing an active role in society and presenting new points of view regarding religious interpretation. However, there are several challenges for female ulama in Islamic boarding schools, such as structural obstacles in the Islamic boarding school education system and gender inequality. Based on this, the existence of female ulama in Islamic boarding schools in the city of Jember gives meaning to the struggle for women's roles in facing the patriarchal culture that is still rooted in the Islamic boarding school environment.''
